Northern Trust Appoints New Chief Technology Officer

Chicago-based Northern Trust has appointed Scott Murray from JP Morgan as chief technology officer.

Murray’s most recent role at JP Morgan was that of business global programme office head for the treasury services business. Before that, he was global chief information officer for treasury services and played a big part in the technology merger of the JP Morgan and Bank One cash management businesses. In the past he was also chief technology officer for Bank One and senior technology manager for asset management at Deutsche Bank.

At Northern Trust he will lead new technology development, support client-facing applications and maintain back-office infrastructure, including data centres for Northern Trust’s global operating platform, which spans 40 countries worldwide.

This is the second significant hire this month from the Chicago firm, which recently appointed Jason Tyler to lead corporate strategy, as Caroline Devlin, who previously held that role, is moving to join the firm’s personal financial services business. Tyler will join the firm on 6 September from Ariel Investments.

As of 30 June 2011, Northern Trust had assets under custody of $4.4 trillion, and assets under investment management of $684.1 billion.
